About the Altered Altar Box Series
This series of unique, handmade trinket boxes was born out of a sacred preparation for a medicine journey. Through the process of collage, I was exploring the layering of image, symbol, and intention. Each mixed media collage box is designed to serve as a tangible extension of a creative, spiritual practice.
Every box is meticulously collaged with vintage and found paper ephemera on a wooden trinket box, complete with a brass latch, and sealed with clear acrylic varnish. Each piece of imagery — from the moths and mystical mushrooms, verdant herbs and flowers, bees and divine goddesses — is carefully chosen. The images represent potent guides and talismans, many deeply resonating with the mystical wisdom of the Tarot.
I see this series of Altered Altar Boxes not just as containers, but intimate sanctuaries to hold treasures, jewelry, notes and intentions, or other mementos. Each box is a unique manifestation tool, imbued with energy to empower and amplify intention setting.
